There are many myths on how to remove mold. Bleach being the one that is noted the most often. Bleaching mold does not remove or even destroy it. It only masks the mold. It will change the color, make it almost transparent, but bleach will not get remove mold once it has set in. You will need to use mold cleaners in order to completely get rid of mold.
The first thing you need to do when removing mold is find out how it got there in the first place. If there is a water leak in the area where the mold is growing, you will want to make sure that it is repaired or you will simply get mold growing back again. Prevention is just as important as mold removal.
Once you have taken care of the cause of the mold, you can work on learning how to remove mold completely from the area. Many of the commercial mold cleaners are expensive and work in the same way that regular house hold cleaners work. There is not need to go out and purchase these products. You can use a strong household cleaner that does not contain ammonia. This is important for the next step.
You will mix the cleaner following the manufacturers’ instructions. Some will have a product to water ratio on the label for certain jobs. Use the strongest mix allowed. Put the diluted solution in a spray bottle. You will want to wear rubber gloves and a face mask while you are cleaning the mold. This will insure your safety. Spray the affected areas well with the cleaner and wash the areas down. Then you will want to take a bucket of clean water and rinse the area well to remove the entire moldy area.
It was stated earlier that one way how to remove mold that was proven false is by using bleach. While this is true, you can still use a diluted solution of bleach and water in order to remove and discoloring that is caused by the mold. This is why you should not use any cleaning products with ammonia which is toxic when mixed with bleach.
